The Beach…

Jennifer reading your blog brings me back to the beach when I would go to wildwood with my parents. Going on the boardwalk what a lovely peaceful place. I wish I was there!!! I can tell you are having a great time. Next time can you pack me in your suitcase? Lol.

As a child we went to Ventnor Beach (just down from Atlantic City) and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (to visit my grandmother) every year. To this day, it’s not a vacation unless I see palm trees and hear the ocean waves! Unfortunately I haven’t seen either much over the years. Last year we managed a trip to Cape Cod that was wonderful. This year I got to see glimpses of palm trees on the way to/from RWA national (and a few when I made it outdoors after workshops). I also find peace at the beach, and hope to visit more often in the coming years.

My sister and I go to Pt. Pleasant every summer if only for a day. We’ve been doing this for 25 years. At first our sons went with us and it fun to see them bond as cousins in the surf and sand. Now they are grown and no longer want to join us and that’s okay. Now we go and sit on the beach until dusk, shower, then go to Martel’s Tiki Bar for drinks and nachos, listen to the band, walk the boardwalk and visit the sweet shop before leaving.

I took a sci-fi anthology to read – no deep revelations like you – but came up with a plot for a sci-fi short story. Happy writing!

  4. Jen, Glad you’ve had a selfish summer. I had one once and spent almost a month in Ireland. Getting away from everything can really perk up a career and also the spirit. Keep writing
