I also was going to add a scene where Taylor confronts him about Samantha before she leaves for Paris – because she’s been noticing him begin to hang out with her a bit. This was the original scene set up:
“Why are you so pissed?” he asked, watching her calmly as she paced back and forth.
“I’m not. I just want to know if you’re sleeping with her. It’s no big deal, Pierce. But I’m certainly not going to visit my fuck buddy when you’re trying to build something with Samantha. We agreed to be monogamous if we were fooling around.”
He regarded her as if she was slightly off her rocker, which only made her temper surge. It was blatantly obvious Samantha liked Pierce. The woman was way too friendly with Taylor, always bubbly and saying how much she admired her, but Taylor believed she was secretly plotting to steal Pierce.
Plus, they seemed to be hanging out a lot, talking on the phone, grabbing drinks. Pierce kept insisting it was just a friendship but she sensed bullshit. After all, that’s how her and Pierce had started out.
Just friends.
He gave a patient sigh. “Taylz, we’re just friends. We haven’t slept together. She’s fun to hang out with, and since you’ve been working so much, it’s nice to have someone to occasionally grab dinner with. That’s it.”
“So sorry I’ve been working night and day for my first exhibit overseas,” she said, words dripping with sarcasm. “I didn’t realize you always needed a friend around to keep you company.”
He blinked. “Have you been drinking?”
She threw back her head and huffed out a breath. Do you want to sleep with her?” she demanded. She hated the awful accusation that popped out of her mouth but she was helpless to stop it. Things inside of her were spinning out of control. Why couldn’t he see it? Because he didn’t feel the same way? She tried to temper her violent response. “I mean it’s totally okay if you do. I just need to know.
His gaze narrowed with interest. “No. I want to sleep with you. And I’m not sure I like that me sleeping with another woman doesn’t bother you.”
Why was he so damn calm and controlled?
Oh, God, everything was changing. Their original pact to take things easy and breezy was crumbling before her. Suddenly, there were actual feelings happening between them and she hated it. Jealousy. Suspicion. Hurt. Anger.
Fear.
She was acting like a jealous girlfriend who had actual rights!
Hell, no. Better to reign this in right now before it went any further.
“I wish I could be there while you’re finding it.”
Her soft voice caressed his ears and his heart. “You will be. You’ll just be physically in Paris while I do it. God knows, you waited long enough for your chance.”
Already, the line was fragile and blurring more every day, so he swore not to move toward her or initiate the kiss.
But he didn’t have to.
